I know, this seems crazy, but it is true. Every day you are throwing money into a fire while you manage your AdWords campaign on your own. Precisely by not being an expert, you could be wasting funds. We would love to be the experts who come in and make your ads perform in tip-top shape. But, before you make that decision, here are a few tips that will help.

You Need to Use Negative Keywords

Negative keywords are a must. I can’t tell you how many times I look at a campaign and see that there are zero negative keywords listed. WHAT??? Why wouldn’t you use negative keywords? This is a major way to save on clicks. If you aren’t using them, you are most likely wasting over 80% of your ad spend. Google will try to push through clicks for some of the most outlandish search terms. Go through and look at all your search terms. This will show you what outrageous terms your ads show up for.

If you aren’t using (negative keywords), you are most likely wasting over 80% of your ad spend.

So, what you need to do is go to your search terms all time. Look at all your search terms and find which terms came through that have nothing to do with your ads. Select the box next to those search terms, slide to the top and select “Add Negative Keywords”.

Changing Keywords to a Specific Match Type

Okay, okay, okay. Now that you have added a bunch of negative keywords, go back to those search terms. If you do this, you are going to see a lot of search terms. So, go in and select the top “converting” keywords and the search terms that you really like. Select the checkbox next to those and slide to the top. Select, “Add as a Keyword”. Go through all of them and add brackets around them. Use this as an example, [search term]. Do this and you are now making those exact match keywords.

These will change your match types and will give you way more targeted traffic.

Then, you go into keywords and the keywords that are performing keywords. You can then change the match type of these. Try putting quotes around the keywords or adding a plus sign to some. These will change your match types and will give you way more targeted traffic.

Location, Location, Location

Targeting specific areas is essential. Try going in and targeting specific zip codes, or cities. The smallest area, the better Google likes it. So, you can add a bunch of zip codes within your area. This is much better than just throwing out a county. Google loves specifics. If you can get as specific as possible, Google will love you. This is a tedious task but will help you.
