Growing Your Business (with a Digital Perspective)

Okay, yes. Everyone wants their business to grow, but the question often returns to “how?” Sure, you have a website, you have a Facebook page, heck, you even have a Twitter account. Now, what?
If you are anything like me, I am a “do-it-yourselfer”. I bought a house that is 100 years old and redid the whole house. I tried my hardest to not have to hire anyone to help. I went to school and opted to do most of my classes online just because I preferred reading it on my own and not working with a professor. So, trust me, I understand the feeling of not wanting help with your business, but if you can at least humor me for just a minute while I try to extend my helping hand to the other “do-it-yourselfers”.

 
Smart Money, Makes Money

 
Advertising is something that can make or break your business. So, spending your funds in the right way will make a world of a difference. If you think that just because you have a site, you are going to get traffic to it, you are sorely mistaken. So, now the question is, “where should you spend your marketing budget?”

Advertising can be a chore, but by paying money the proper way, your business can quickly double.

There are multiple companies who are willing to take your money to advertise, but what type of return (if any) will you receive? Advertising can be a chore, but by paying money the proper way, your business can quickly double. Thus, smart money makes money.
By that, I mean, finding the right place to spend it. So, let’s look at your digital marketing options and see which is best.

 
PPC

 
Pay-per-click, PPC, is one of the most imperative types of digital marketing. And Google owns this market. Bing, although much lower, is your second major company with others such as Yahoo that follow. Now, running a PPC campaign isn’t just a walk in the park.

… if you are willing to put in a lot of money, Google will help you out. If you are not serious about your ad spend, they will push you aside.

There are multiple facets and ways to make your campaigns perform better. Google will assign you a rep when you first sign up and depending on your potential spend with them, the rep will put in more effort. So, if you are willing to put in a lot of money, Google will help you out. If you are not serious about your ad spend, they will push you aside (more often then not, they push you aside anyway. But, there are some who are truly willing to help, and you get those type of people with more money). So, as a “D-I-Yer”, I suggest trying to pull as much out of the Google rep as you can. And, if you can’t get much from them, remember that you can ask for a different one.

 
Display Ads

 
This is one that is also mostly controlled by Google, but Facebook is hot on their tale. Facebook ads now don’t only show up on Facebook.

… find good images for these. Make them look professional. This will reflect positively on your business.

They have built a network with multiple sites that your ads from Facebook will show up on now. So, by signing up through one of these companies with your business, you can start placing ads throughout the internet that are solely image driven. Now, for the “D-I-Yer”, you may want to go out and find good images for these. Make them look professional. This will reflect positively on your business.

 
Video Ads

 
Once again, Google owns this market as they own YouTube, but these ads can be very effective. Plus, they are cheap because you can place a “skip ad” button.

There are multiple free editing software companies out there that allow you to add music, splice, and add filters.

Thus, you are only charged if people watch the video. So, if you are the “D-I-Yer”, you can make a great video on your cell phone. There are multiple free editing software companies out there that allow you to add music, splice, and add filters to give your video a professional feel.
