Finding the Right Marketing Fit

Every company must ask themselves, how do I market? Do I hire an in-house person, a team, or maybe should I look outside of the company and hire a company? This is a tough question and one that can really hold back your company’s decision making. Here I would like to roll out the pros and cons of both situations.

Hiring an In-House Marketer

First, let’s discuss hiring an in-house team or person. Actually, let’s just discuss hiring one person to be your marketer, then we will move into a team. Well, once you start the interviewing process, you are going to realize one thing.

One may be good at building a social media presence, one may be an excellent website developer… This can be extremely difficult… because each will be able to… (tell you) why their specialty is what your business needs.

Marketers come with all different types of talents. One may be good at building a social media presence, one may be an excellent website developer, one may be a master graphic designer, etc… This can be extremely difficult for you to decide because each will be able to plead their case as to why their specialty is what your business needs.

Next, you will have to discuss salaries. This is an even wider range than talents for marketers. Now, you don’t want to someone who is so slivered in their specialty that when you ask them to perform a task outside of their skill base that they completely botch the aforementioned task. But, paying for the most expensive guys seems excessive because they don’t have all the knowledge in everything either. So, what do you do? Let’s write a pros and cons list.

Pros

• Only dealing with one person
• They become a part of the team

Cons

• Usually slivered in one area of expertise
• Salary
• Confusing as to who to hire and what your business needs
• Gamble with allowing just 1 person to run everything
For me, this is one of the scariest decisions you can make. I wouldn’t want to have to decide on just one person. So, for me, this is my least favorite option.

Hiring an In-House Marketing Team

Okay, okay. So, hiring one guy was difficult. So, instead, you just decide to hire a full team to market for you. Now, this can be one of the best decisions for you. It covers almost all the cons from above. You are slivered with just one person, you don’t have to decide between graphic designer and master at SEO, you can just hire both.

This is by far the most expensive choice.

But, now the issue is the cost and where do you stop hiring? Where is the line? Do you trust the website developer to run the social media to save a few bucks? Do you allow the guy who knows SEO to run SEM? Or do you hire all of them? Here is the pros and cons list for these.

Pros

• Can cover the wider spectrum of marketing
• No confusion on hiring just one expert
• This team is only yours and no one else’s

Cons

• SALARY (This is by far the most expensive choice)

Hiring an Outside Marketing Company

So, looking at the above pros and cons lists you start to see why marketing companies exist. They are usually cheaper than paying for five different people’s salaries and can give you most of the pros from above. But, sometimes, and trust me on this one, marketing companies can get log-jammed and then just stop caring about their clients.

… sometimes marketing companies can be real con-artists.

I remember working for a marketing company before ACTV and being told to just do the minimum because we had too many clients to go above and beyond for. WHAT?!?! These people are paying our checks and we are just going to do the minimum for them? I was floored and then with the next company I worked for, the same thing happened. Let’s face it, sometimes marketing companies can be real con-artists. I have worked for numerous ones and have seen these types of things happening all around me. Clients become second and building the bottom line becomes first. Eventually, it leads to lower quality work and messy situations for everyone. It, if we are being frank, disgusts me.

Pros

• A full team who understands how to market
• You just hire them and shouldn’t have to worry (you do, but… We will leave it here just for the sake of pros)
• Much cheaper
• Tax break (it is a tax write off to hire a marketing company)

Cons

• You just are a number to them
• Easily are forgotten or even thought about
• Their bottom line usually comes first

Hiring ACTV Marketing

Here is where we come in. We don’t want you to just be a number. We want you to excel and for us to be your partner in business. We are unlike any other marketing company that I have heard of. We work with you, hand in hand, not for you, or at you, or (like other marketing companies) against you. We are your partner. You are given an account rep who knows everything about your account. This person is assigned to you and if they need help, they have our team to fall back on.

We are your partner. You are not just a number to us!

This truly is the easing mind marketing that you should look for. We want to help you grow and we only grow if you grow. This is something that we have always understood. That is why our company came about.

Pros

• Only dealing with one person
• They become a part of the team
• A full team who understands how to market
• Stress-Free Marketing
• A True Partnership
• A Tax Break
• Much cheaper than hiring in-house even just one person

Cons

• We can’t be in your office every day (Trust me, it saddens us too. But, we are in your account every day.)
